Annerley Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy

The Bowen technique was first developed in Australia by Thomas Bowen (1916 to 1982). Following his interest and studies in the human muscular structure, he intuitively began working with this gentle technique discovering that certain moves on the body helped recovery from many conditions. His work in his popular clinic in Geelong, was verified by the 1975 Victorian Government Inquiry into alternative health care professions. It is recorded that he saw some 13,000 patients every year – an incredible work-rate.

It was only in 1986 that the technique was brought to other countries. Oswald Rentsch – a former massage therapist who Tom had invited to work and study with him - was authorized by Bowen to document and teach his methods. And with the help of Bowen’s Clerk, Rene Horwood, and his wife Elaine, they together produced a record of the Bowen Technique.

Why choose Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a technique, which aims to treat the cause of joint pain, muscle issues, sports injuries, ongoing or intermittent pain. This remedial approach incorporates gentle soft tissue manipulation, stimulating the connective tissue around muscles, successfully addressing the concerns presented, and is suitable for children, adults and seniors.

Approved by many private health insurance providers, Bowen Therapy is widely used to relieve and resolve both long standing and also sudden onset pain.

As a stand-alone, or as a complementary therapy to existing chiropractic or physiotherapy programs, Bowen Therapy has proven to be an effective technique.

Initial consultation

This first step is an interview, to allow Dr Bianchi to have a full understanding of your medical history, current issues and daily activities that can impact your health.

Assessment

Following the initial consult discussion, Dr Bianchi will be able to provide you with an assessment of your presenting condition.

Therapy

Dr Bianchi will commence basic techniques specific to the region of concern. This involves a series of specific rolling moves across the fascia / soft tissue associated with your muscle groups, tendons, ligaments and nerves.

During your session, Dr Bianchi will pause to allow effective fascial release and the adequate hydration of cells and tissues. This is part of the muscular healing process, following the gentle manipulation of your Bowen Therapy.

Post Therapy

Dr Bianchi will advise you to increase your water intake to support the treatment administered to your muscles. You will be advised on any anticipated changes to expect that will indicate the success of the treatment, and you will be given post treatment exercises if appropriate.
